How to make

Divide up the phyllo pastry sheets into 2 piles. Beat the eggs with the sugar to a fluffy cream. Add the flour with the baking powder and stir. Next, add the coarsely ground walnuts and stir with a spatula.

Arrange 1/2 the sheets in a suitable oven dish after smearing each one with melted butter. Pour in the cake mixture and arrange the rest of the sheets on top, again smeared with butter. Cut the baklava carefully with a sharp knife.

Pour the oil in a casserole and heat it up. Pour it over the baklava and bake for 35-40 min. at 360°F (180 °C). Leave it to cool at least 4 hours, then cut it up again (it shrinks during baking). Make a syrup from the sugar and water.
