Make the syrup: boil the sugar and water for 5 min., remove from the stove, add the lemon juice and leave it to cool.
Beat the eggs and the sugar in a bowl until whitened. Add the oil, cinnamon, vanilla, flour with baking powder and stir well. Pour the chopped walnuts and orange zest into the cake form.
Divide up the phyllo pastry sheets evenly into 3 parts. Arrange the 1st part of the sheets, smearing with melted butter between them. Put part of the filling on top, arrange the 2nd part of the sheets, filling again and finish off with the 3rd part.
Cut it into pieces, pour the remaining melted butter on top. Bake in a preheated 370°F (190 °C) oven for 25-30 min.
Take it out, pour the cold syrup over it and leave it overnight to soak in. So tasty and aromatic you'll be licking your fingers clean.
