That which is labeled as a nectar that we often buy from stores is sweet to the taste but ultimately we cannot know what we're consuming and how healthy it actually is.
A nectar is considered a fruit beverage that has pieces of fruits in it and is not as translucent as a regular juice.
Some of the most common types of nectars are ones made from peaches and apricots that we can easily prepare at home and it must be noted that the best tasting nectar comes from homegrown fruits.
Here are 2 recipes you can try, and depending on whether you would like it more sweet or sour you can experiment with the amount of sugar you add to the fruits.
Peach Nectar
Ingredients: 3 4/5 cups water, 3 lb peaches, 1 2/5 cups sugar.
Preparation: Combine the water and sugar and leave them to boil for about 3 min. Wash the peaches, peel them and remove the pits.
Cut them into quarters and add them to the sugar syrup. After 5 min., take the pot off the stove and blend the entire mixture using a blender or immersion blender.
Pour into pre-washed bottles, seal them airtight and sterilize for about 15 min. Thus prepared nectar is ready for consumption but don't forget that before pouring it in glasses you should shake the bottles well to make the mixture homogenous.
Apricot Nectar
Ingredients: 2 lb apricots, 1 cup sugar, 4 1/5 cups water.
Preparation: Wash the apricots and put them briefly in boiling water so that you can peel them easier. Peel, remove the pits. Boil for 10 min. and pass them through a sieve.
Combine the water and sugar in a suitably large container to make the sugar syrup. Mix it with the sieved fruits and put everything to boil for 5 min. If needed, sieve one more time before this. Pour the ready nectar into bottles, seal them airtight.
