Fried Ice Cream

Chinese cuisine is well known worldwide and the majority of us associate it primarily with wok-fried rice, fine rice noodles, delicious black mushrooms, golden fried meat and the ever-popular spring rolls.

Few of us ever make it to dessert after we've stuffed ourselves with all sorts of Chinese specialties. But it is definitely not one to be missed. Here are 3 recipes of some of the most common Chinese desserts:

Fried Ice Cream

Ingredients: 2 cups ice cream, 3 eggs, coconut flakes, crushed cornflakes, oil for frying, jam or cream for garnish.

Preparation: Use an ice cream scoop to shape balls from the ice cream, then leave them in the freezer so they become very hard. In 3 separate plates, put the coconut flakes, whipped eggs and cornflakes, respectively, then roll the ice cream balls in them subsequently. Fry for no more than 3 min. in highly heated oil. Serve the fried ice cream with jam or cream.

Magnolia Fritters

Fritters

Ingredients: 3/4 cup flour, 3 beaten to snow egg whites, 3 tbsp powdered sugar, magnolia leaves, oil for frying, powdered sugar for sprinkling.

Preparation: Make a dough from the flour, egg whites and powdered sugar. Once you get a homogeneous mixture, add the finely chopped magnolia leaves. If you don't have magnolia leaves you can use acacia or rose. Form balls from the mixture, drop them in highly heated peanut oil, drain and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Peanut Bonbons

Peanut Bonbons

Ingredients: 2 cups peeled peanuts, 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 cup water, 3 tbsp rose jam.

Preparation: Put the peanuts to boil with a little water. In a separate container, mix the sugar with the cup of water while stirring nonstop until the sugar dissolves completely. Put this mixture on the stove and once it thickens add the rose jam and peanuts.

Stir once again very well and form balls from the cooled mixture with wet hands. Once they're ready, put them on an oven dish smeared with peanut butter and eat cold.
