Eating cereals is phenomenally healthy, plus it's good for the waistline. Sometimes though, we may wonder about what goes in this delicious food and whether it's actually as healthy as we think.
A way to deal with this anxiety is to make it at home. There is an easy recipe with which we can make superb homemade cornflakes.
It is very quick to make and the taste is remarkable. Plus, you will know exactly what you are putting in your cornflakes.
You will need 1 1/2 cups corn flour, 1 tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp vanilla sugar and 3/4 cup water. These ingredients will be enough to make 2 cups of cornflakes in 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Add the vanilla sugar and water to the flour, sugar and salt. You can add more water if necessary - the goal is to get a dough with the consistency of that for pancakes.
Preheat the oven to the maximum. Cover the baking dish either with baking paper or smear butter on it. Pour the dough in a thin layer, add a little corn flour to make the cornflakes crunchier. Then bake the mixture for 10-15 min.
Remove it from the oven and break it apart with your hands to the standard flake size. Put it to bake once more, this time for at least 50-55 min. Reduce the heat to 390°F (200 °C) and wait until the pieces catch that nice golden tan.
After removing from the oven, wait for the homemade cornflakes to cool well. Pour them into a suitable airtight container to maintain the wondrous taste of your homemade cereal.
You can garnish your cornflakes with milk, honey or use it to make desserts.
