The winter season is closely tied to many festive dinners in the pleasant company of those we love. Among the holiday dinner tables packed with all kinds of treats, it is good to serve drinks suitable for the season.

Besides tasty meals, the cold winter days also offer delicious drinks, that must be plenty warm to warm us as well, and whose flavor would make the holidays and winter nights even more cozy and pleasant.

The first drink we are proposing is made using dark rum. Combine 1 2/3 cups (400 mL) of apple juice, 4/5 cup (200 mL) of cherry compote, 2/5 cup (100 mL) of dark rum in an appropriately large pot. Turn the stove on low heat and add 3 cloves, 3 cinnamon sticks and orange zest.

Optionally, you can add 2 tablespoons of lemon zest. Once the drink heats up nicely, leave it on the stove for a few minutes to simmer, so that your entire home begins to smell of the wonderful aroma of cinnamon and cloves. Then drain the drink and pour it into appropriate cups.

In case you are not a fan of alcohol, you can make hot chocolate. You will need 4 oz (120 g) of dark chocolate, 1 cup of cream, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 vanilla pod, the zest of 1 orange and if desired, 2-3 pinches of ground allspice.

In an appropriate container, place the cream and the same amount of water, the allspice, vanilla, brown sugar. Let the mixture come to a boil, remove from the stove after 2-3 min. and while still hot, put in the crumbled chocolate and finely grated orange zest.

Let us also not forget to mention the simpler to make, but just as delicious and warming herbal teas, as well as the favored warm milk with honey. And since herbal teas and milk are perhaps the most suitable for holiday dinners, we recommend you diversify them a little bit.

Pour in 1 1/3 tbsp (20 mL) of cognac (to 4/5 cup (200 mL) of milk), sweeten with honey to taste and add a pinch of cinnamon.

The last proposal is to make a drink with 4/5 cup (200 g) sugar, 2 lemons, 4 oranges, 2 cups strong tea and 2 cups rum. Dissolve the sugar in 4 cups of boiling water, then add the tea, as well as the squeezed juice of the fruits.

Also add in the grated rind of 2 oranges and the lemons. Pour in the rum to it just prior to serving and serve warm. Distribute into appropriate cups and drink while hot.
