Egg Allergy in Children

With egg allergy, the immune system perceives the protein as a harmful substance, as a result of which the body forms a protective reaction. Various antibodies and substances such as histamine are produced.

Children's allergy to eggs can create quite a lot of difficulties. Unfortunately, the substances released by the immune system do not protect the body.

On the contrary, they create problems for the respiratory and digestive systems and skin. Symptoms include nausea, headache, stomach pain, rashes and wheezing.

Egg allergy may first develop in infancy or early childhood.

This allergy is quite common. The reaction lasts at least one day. An allergic reaction can be judged by:

Appearance of uneven red rash, itching of the skin, swelling and redness of the mouth, eczema.

Nausea and diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain.

Onset of runny nose, red eyelids, watery eyes, sneezing.

With an allergy, there is a possibility of developing anaphylaxis. This is a dangerous condition characterized by rapid redness, itching, swelling.

Parents can recognize this condition if they see swelling in the mouth. The reaction develops rapidly and leads to a state of shock.

Once it is established that the child has an allergy to eggs the intake of eggs should be stopped. However, this is not so easy as many foods contain egg products. When parents consult a specialist, they should list all the products, which should be avoided.

In acute reactions to eggs, the doctor may advise the child's parents to always have epinephrine on hand. It would prevent an accident, until a medical team arrives.

Another remedy is the antihistamine preparation - it relieves the symptoms of the allergy.

Check out ways to substitute egg in recipes:

1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tbsp. vinegar;

1 tbsp. yeast dissolved in 1/4 tsp. water;

1 packet of gelatin and 2 tbsp. water;

1 1/2 tbsp. water, 1 1/2 tbsp. oil, 1 tsp baking soda.

Any one of these combinations can replace one egg in a recipe, but cannot replace more than three eggs.
