The benefits of apples are indisputable and well known to everyone. Among the many merits of the fruit is the fact that it does not count among the allergens that are common.
To the question of whether there is an allergy to apples, the answer is unequivocal - allergic reactions occur to any food product and that means apples as well.
For those who are prone to allergic reactions to fruit, it is recommended to wash the apple well with a household brush and dry it afterwards and you can simply remove the peel of the fruit, although there are many vitamins in it.
To test for an allergy, a small piece of it is first tried and if no reaction occurs within an hour, it can be safely consumed by the baby or toddler in the form of a porridge.
Allergy to apples occurs most often in a whole family. The hereditary factor for such a reaction is very strong and the probability of it appearing in the next generation is as high as 50 percent. Causes of allergy are:
- reaction to the pigment in the fruit;
- as a consequence of the reaction to the pollen from the tree during flowering;
- reaction to toxins that appeared due to improper storage of the fruit;
- treatment with chemicals for longer preservation;
- individual intolerance;
Allergy symptoms cover the skin, the respiratory system and the digestive system. Redness and spots on the skin 1 hour after eating the fruit, swelling, difficulty in breathing, diarrhea, pain and vomiting, the appearance of weakness and fainting are manifestations of the allergic reaction. With different types of apples, the manifestations of allergy are stronger or weaker and the allergy to green apples occurs more often.
Allergies usually appear in childhood and infancy when feeding children with this fruit, so it is necessary to start carefully adding it to the child's menu.
Allergy treatment depends on the severity of the symptoms. It should be known that with heat treatment, allergies are much weaker or completely absent. Therefore baked apples, steamed or as a compote are a better option to start consuming the fruit. The drugs used are:
- injection of epinephrine;
- intake of antihistamines;
- corticosteroids;
- use of a bronchodilator to ease breathing.
As prevention, it is recommended to feed the baby with breast milk as long as possible, quick access to an allergist in case of an already established allergy, use of immunomodulators to strengthen the body's defenses.
Establishment of an allergy to apples is carried out through a blood test and then proceeds to individual treatment.
