This caffeinated drink has become very popular in the last 10 years. Based on the Italian-born cappuccino, resembling a latte, but with a chocolate or cocoa flavor.
The name of the drink comes from "Mocha" - a variety of coffee, heavy coffee with a dense structure, light milk-chocolate and a bit of a truffle taste. The Arab city of Mocha in Yemen is home to this variety of coffee. In general, the recipe is basically a cappuccino with chocolate or cocoa.
The best mochaccino is made with freshly ground coffee and quality cocoa or if you decide to make it with chocolate - use real and quality chocolate.
For a classic Mocha flavor, use dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate or cocoa powder. The simple and basic mocha recipe is 1 cup of freshly brewed coffee, 2 tablespoons of chocolate or cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon of cream or milk.
Of course, you can always be an experimenter and add dark or white chocolate, add a pinch of sea salt, cinnamon, nutmeg or chili powder.
Like cappuccino, mochaccino usually contains the distinctive milk foam on top, although it is commonly seen on hot chocolate, to be served with cream.
Cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, cocoa powder or marshmallows may also be added to the decoration.
