Yogurt is a good healthy breakfast alternative, especially when mixed with fresh fruit and nuts. As a dairy product, it can spoil quickly if not stored properly.
Yogurt should not be left at room temperature for more than two hours.
It ferments quickly at room temperature, so yogurt should be stored in a refrigerator at temperatures between 3 and 4°C. If stored in an airtight container, it should keep well for up to 10 days.
Once opened, however, it should be used within three to four days.
Yogurt
is sold with an expiration date marked on the packaging. This date should be taken into account.Never buy yogurt that has expired.
It is possible to freeze yogurt, but the freezing process significantly changes its texture, and therefore this method of storage is not recommended.
Yogurt with a higher fat content can be frozen and thawed more easily than low-fat yogurt. On the other hand, freezing yogurt is an effective way to keep large quantities of yogurt from spoiling.
