How Can Bananas Ripen Faster?

As winter approaches, everyone rushes to buy bananas. There is no Christmas table without exotic fruit. Bananas are not only delicious but also very healthy. They are rich in potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin A and folic acid. They contain a lot of starch and only one fruit is enough to get rid of the feeling of hunger.

Some of us prefer to eat bananas when they have not fully ripened and are not as sweet. Others like well-ripened bananas, while others like bananas with brown spots on the skin, which are very sweet.

These exotic fruit are picked while they're green and are left to ripen in special rooms where they are treated with ethylene. It is a gas, which helps the fruit to ripen.

In many cases, green bananas are treated with ethylene while they're transported to the market.

Some vehicles have special appliances that release ethylene and the bananas become edible while they are transported.

However, when you come across bananas, which have not ripened, you can solve the problem overnight. All you have to do is put the green fruit in a paper bag with a well-ripened banana and close the bag tightly. Leave it in a dark and warm place overnight and in the morning you will have a sweet banana.

Without light, the fruit ripen faster, while green bananas absorb the ethylene released by the ripe bananas, which speeds up the ripening process.

Another option is to put a ripe tomato or avocado next to the bananas - the natural ethylene from the fruit will allow the bananas to ripen faster.
