How Long to Boil Rice for?

We have said many times that preparing rice is an art that requires experience and knowledge. Improper cooking or frying of rice can cause you to serve your family and guests a sticky shapeless mass, that will certainly not make a good impression.

It is important when cooking rice to stick to the proper cooking time so that the cooked rice isn't overcooked or too mushy. The cooking time for the rice in a regular pot or other pan without a lid, usually ranges from 25-30 minutes, depending on the its kind.

If you decide to steam the rice, you should bear in mind that the time it takes to boil it is almost the same amout of time as the traditional boiling time - 20-30 minutes.

In addition, to the traditional way of boiling rice, there is an easier way to prepare it. The only difference between the two boiling techniques is that with the second technique the rice is boiled for a short while and after that it is left to absorb the liquid and swell.

How does this work? First, the rice is washed thoroughly until the water is completely transparent. Then pour water in a ratio of 1:2 (1 part of rice: 2 parts of water) and boil over high heat.

Secure the pan with a lid, boil for 5 minutes without stirring, then reduce the heat and boil the rice for another 2-3 minutes on a medium heat and then another 2 minutes on a low heat. Then turn off the stove and leaving the pan on top without removing the lid. After ten minutes of stewing, the rice is ready to eat.

The so-called stewed rice is most defnitely suitable for garnish for meat dishes. Can also be used for the preparation of fried vegetable rice and others.
