How to Freeze Green Beans?

It is an indisputable fact that it is best to consume fresh fruit and vegetables. However, you should know that even when freezing them, that huge amounts of their vitamins and minerals are not lost.

It is important to know how to store food in the freezer in winter.

When it's green bean season, it's much easier to find home-grown ones. Moreover, this vegetable has proven benefits for the heart, liver, kidneys. It is dietary, has a good effect on the digestive system and is suitable for people with high cholesterol.

How can we freeze green beans?

Choose fresh green beans with whole beans, without spots and rotten areas. There are many types and varieties of green beans on the market, what you choose depends on your taste and preferences.

Soak the green beans in water for 15 minutes. This way a large part of the dirt and dust fall off. Wash it under running water, while making sure there is no debris on it.

Using a knife, cut the corners at both ends and cut them into the desired size. 2″ (5 cm) are enough.

Boil 8 cups (2 liters) of water. Blanch the green beans for about 2-3 minutes. Remove them with a slotted spoon and soak them in cold water for about a minute. This way the vegetables stay fresher.

Take them out and allow them to drain well on a clean towel.

Pack the green beans in portions in plastic bags or boxes. You can write the date of when you freeze them and it is good to consume frozen green beans within one year.

Once defrosted, they should not be frozen again.

The green beans can be used as a main dish, as an addition to a guvec, for salads, for garnish, soups and whatever you like.

I myself have frozen and green beans that weren't blanched, but they should be consumed faster in that case and it also takes up more space.
