Nutrition experts are adamant that there are foods, which no matter how much we stuff ourselves with, not only won't fill us up but will actually whet our appetite even further.
The reason is that the nutritional value in these products has been depleted during processing. They actually make our feelings of hunger worse, even if we have eaten a few minutes ago.
Gum
Chewing gum stimulates salivation and stomach acid secretion. This action tricks our body that there is actual food in our mouth, making us even hungrier.
Diet Soda
Diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners, which not only provide 0 nutritional substances for our body, they also make us hungry. Initially sweeteners make us feel satiated but then intensify hunger.
High Fructose Corn Syrup
Almost all of the substances in high fructose corn syrup are processed, making even moderate consumption of it hazardous.
This syrup tricks our body, so the more we consume it, the hungrier we get afterwards. High fructose corn syrup slows down the secretion of the hormone leptin, which is key for satiety.
Frozen Dinners
Frozen dinners do not contain enough calories to provide satiety. All of the nutrition was lost when these products were processed. Frozen dinners are usually heated in the microwave, which further ruins the quality of the food.
Cakes
Cakes have no way of making us full either. Pastries and cakes are full of white sugar, which temporarily suppresses feelings of hunger but shortly afterward we end up hungrier than before.
That's why it's best not to eat anything sweet, especially before a meal.
Sugar Desserts
The sweet chocolate and sugary blocks that we tend to eat between meals are loaded with sweeteners. Many people eat them instead of a snack but they are completely unsuitable as a first course.
These desserts are highly processed and lead us to eat more than we actually need later on.
