Pear compotes are a good way to store these fruit for the winter. But there is another way. You can freeze and defrost pears. Here's how:
Freezing pears
The first thing you need to do is choose your pears, of course. Good pears, that are ideal for freezing are those, that are well ripened without any damage to them, should have a soft pulp and be of medium size;
- Once you have chosen the pears and the containers you will freeze them in, you can move on. Just put the pears in the containers, which you have cut in the shape of your choice and sprinkle them with lemon juice. Then put them in the freezer for 2 hours at a temperature of -30 degrees;
- Then the optimal temperature for freezing pears at home is -12 to -18 degrees. This way pears can last from 6 to 12 months;
Defrosting pears
- It is very important to know how to properly defrost pears, so that they do not lose their useful qualities. Here are the ways to defrost them properly:
- Defrosting at room temperature - this is the easiest and best way to defrost pears. For a faster way to defrost the fruit, you can put the pears under a thin stream of warm water. In this process, the pears will lose very few vitamins;
- Defrosting in the microwave - this method is quite common, but is the least optimal. Although it is much faster, its most important drawback, is that pears are subjected to heat treatment, which can significantly reduce the amount of vitamins in the fruit.
With the defrosted fruit you can then prepare a pear sponge cake or a pear pie.
