Avocado is very tasty and healthy. How to store it when you buy it - you will find out in the following paragraphs. You should choose soft avocados, if you want what you're cooking to be tastier. If it is slightly firm and its skin is also light, then it is good and you can buy it. Here's how you can store a whole or half avocado.
Storage of avocados:
In order to get a tasty dish, the avocado must be well ripened. And for that to happen, you need to know how to store it properly. The best way to store avocados is in a paper bag containing an apple and at room temperature. The apple releases a gas called ethylene, which helps the avocado ripen faster.
- Preserving whole avocados - If your avocados are whole and unripe, they should not be stored in the refrigerator, but at room temperature. They should not be left in too much light;
- Storing half an avocado - If you're only going to use half of your avocado, storing the rest is a challenge. The part that is left open makes the avocado more susceptible to germs, which then cause it to rot.
Here's how to properly store half an avocado:
- do not remove the seed of the avocado from the rest that you will not use;
- the seed keeps the part that is not used fresh for a longer time;
- it is good to wrap the part of the avocado that you will not use with cling film to keep it fresh;
- you can then put it in the fridge.
When the avocado is ripe, it should be used faster because it will rot very quickly.
