Sliced almonds in a spoon

Everyone has heard that although quite high in calories nuts are very good for our health - especially almonds. They stand out from other nuts with their rich calcium content - 252 mg per 100 g of almonds and if eaten raw or soaked, they become an easily digestible food, which is also very rich in vitamins.

Also, everyone knows, that the best and quality almonds are the homemade. However, here's what you need to do if you want to peel them or even slice them:

- The easiest and fastest way to peel almonds is by blanching them. For this purpose, boil a sufficient amount of water and drop the nuts inside. If the almonds are of good quality, they will need no more than 2-3 minutes;

- After the specified time has passed, take out the almonds, strain them and squeeze each nut between your thumb and forefinger, so that it's skin falls off;

- Another way to peel almonds, in which they manage to keep their snow-white color intact, is by soaking them in cold water and leaving them overnight. The removal of the their skin is done again in the manner described above;

- No matter which method of peeling you prefer, it is imperative that the peeled almonds are well drained and dried. For this purpose, spread them on a towel or kitchen roll. They will need at least a few hours to dry completely;

Sliced almonds

- If you don't have enough time to wait for the peeled almonds to dry naturally, you can also put them in the oven. Remember, that it must be run at low temperatures, otherwise you will burn them;

- After you have peeled the almonds, you can proceed to slice them and this is the most difficult part. Some of the expensive food processors have an option to slice almonds, but very few households have such equipment;

- In practice, if you don't have special equipment, there is no way you can slice almonds and make them as thin as they are sold in stores. However, you can cut them into 2 or 3 parts with the help of a very sharp knife and a lot of patience. Even so, be very careful when slicing them and protect your fingers. In fact, this slicing method is only recommended if you have homemade almonds, whose quality you are sure of and know that slicing them is worth spending the necessary time and effort.
