"In the season of mussels, we eat Greek-style mussels! What about you?"

Ingredients

  • mussels - 0.9 lb (400 g) cleaned
  • salt
  • butter - 1.4 oz (40 g)
  • For the sauce
  • garlic - 5 cloves
  • dry bread - 1 cup crumbled (breadcrumbs)
  • walnuts - 1/2 cup
  • olive oil - 1/2 cup
  • lemon juice - 2 tbsp.
  • salt - to taste

How to make

Take a non-stick pan and put it on the stove on medium heat. Put the butter and the cleaned mussels into it. Season with salt. Cook them until done, by stirring often.

Start preparing the skordalia sauce. Fry the bread crumbs in the fat from the mussels until golden.

Soak for a minute or two and strain.

Using a mortar and pestle, crush the garlic and salt and add that to the bread. Stir well.

Then add olive oil and lemon juice, mix.

Using a mixer, beat until a smooth creamy texture is obtained. Then add the grinded walnuts.

The Greek Mussels with Skordalia Sauce are ready.
