In a bowl, pour the sugar and oil, vanilla, dried cherries and stir with a spoon, so that the sugar melts and the mixture becomes slightly transparent.
Gradually add the flour and baking powder, until the mixture begins to crumble.
Beat the eggs one by one and stir vigorously, so that they mix well with the mixture. You should get a very thick dough, which is almost like the one for rolling out.
In a baking pan covered with baking paper, pour the mixture and spread it out with a spoon. Pit the morello cherries and arrange them on the surface.
Bake in a preheated oven at 360°F (180°C), until a golden brown color is obtained.
If desired, you can sprinkle the baked fruit cake with powdered sugar.
The retro morello cherry cake is ready.
