"Once the carolers return home practically frozen after wandering all around the neighborhood, serve them some of this warm soup so they can heat up."

Ingredients

  • pork - 21 oz (600 g)
  • leeks - 1 stalk
  • onions - 1 medium
  • rice - 1/2 cup, white
  • oil - 3 1/3 tbsp (50 ml)
  • cabbage soup - 2 cups (500 ml)
  • savory - 2 pinches
  • paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
  • black pepper
  • salt - to taste, or if necessary
  • bay leaf - optional, according to taste
measures

How to make

Cut the meat into small cubes. Fry them in oil. When they turn pink, add the chopped onion and leeks. Pour in some water (3 1/3 tbsp (50 ml)) and stew until the vegetables soften slightly. Sprinkle paprika, mix well and add hot water (about 6 1/5 cups (1.5 l)). Add the bay leaf and a few grains of black pepper.

When the meat softens, add the washed rice, and when it is almost completely softened, add the cabbage soup and allow it to boil for about 10 minutes.

Taste it and only then, if necessary, add a little salt. Put in the savory and ground black pepper. This soup is very tasty. It is called Christmas caroler soup, because my folks never went a Christmas without making it. They used to serve it to anyone that visited them, to keep them warm.
