Many people believe that mussels are not one of the foods they should consume, since they purify the water and remove all debris from the sea. At the same time, however, mussels are a seafood delicacy that can be prepared deliciously, easily and quickly.
Usually, they do not need more than a few minutes to become delicious during their thermal treatment and they are also a suitable food that we could serve to our guests. However, here is what you need to know if you want to prepare delicious mussels:
1. The mussels must be well washed and cleaned. No one will enjoy eating steamed mussels, which, in addition to smelling and looking wonderful, also have grains of sand that remind you of their existence with every bite.
2. Cleaning the mussels is done by removing the growth that comes off them with a sharp movement of the hand. In addition, you should rinse them with at least a few waters after you have cleaned them from seaweed and other unnecessary formations stuck to their shells.
3. To prepare really delicious mussels, you need to be next to them during their heat treatment. The moment their shells start to open up, the mussels are ready to eat. It doesn't matter whether you boil them or stew them with wine, oil or spices. You just have to keep an eye on them. If you miss the moment to remove the mussels from the heat, they will become too dry.
4. For mussels to be delicious, they must be fresh. Although there is no way to know for sure whether this is the case, always make sure that the mussels have closed shells. If they are open, this is a sure sign that they are at least a few days old and apart from not being tasty, they may even have gone bad. And everyone knows that spoiled mussels can easily cause food poisoning.
5. Most mussel lovers consume them stewed with a very small amount of wine and drizzled with butter or olive oil, finely chopped garlic and aromatic spices. If you don't have wine, you can replace it with beer and the preferred spices when preparing mussels are dill or parsley, but always fresh.
6. Mussels go great with a fresh prepared tomato sauce, in which you can add basil and oregano. Another way to consume them is by preparing seafood risotto or paella.
