When you feel the need to drink a ton of water, it is usually the reason for not intaking the required amount during the day. If you exercise in the gym or spend more time under the strong sun, you should drink the water, which you have released in the form of sweat. Otherwise you can dehydrate. What happens, however, if you keep on feeling thirsty? What can the reason be?
1. Diabetes - Both types of diabetes, in type 1 and 2, the risk of dehydration can increase, especially if you have not yet realized that you have such a problem. When blood sugar levels are too high, the body presses the kidneys and this causes you to urinate more often. The latter can also be a reason for excessive thirst. If you have these symptoms, see a doctor and request a blood sugar test.
2. Dry mouth - also known as xerostomy, which is often confused with excessive thirst. This is an unusual dry mouth in which your glands do not produce enough saliva. This, in turn, can lead to other problems such as bad breath, thick saliva and problems with chewing. The reason for this dryness may be stress and anxiety, smoking or just age.
3. Menstruation - it can also be the cause of a strong thirst. The levels of estrogen and progesterone can affect the amount of fluid. When blood loss is added to this, the thirst increases even more.
4. Thyroid problems - When producing too little or too many hormones, the gland can stimulate various symptoms, such as a feeling of anxiety, dry mouth, painful cycle. All of them can contribute to the continuous feeling of thirst.
5. Chronic stress - It can cause low blood pressure and a problem in the functioning of the adrenal glands. This can lead to depression, dizziness, anxiety, and also thirst. This is the body's way to add more water in an attempt to raise blood pressure.
6. Diuretic foods - products with this effect can make you feel a constant thirst, because they make you urinate more. These are foods like lemons, melons, celery, asparagus, parsley, beets and ginger.
7. Low carbohydrate diets - thirst is normal for them, as they require consuming less carbohydrates, and the latter retain more water than fat and proteins.
8. Pregnancy - Thirst is another symptom, which you can find out with, that you are expecting a child. Here comes the frequent urination, which also causes a desire to consume liquids and in particular water.
9. Excessive blood loss - if for one reason or another, you have intensive bleeding, it can increase the thirst in the desire of the body to get the lost amount of fluid. It seeks compensation. Of course, with such a problem, you should consult a doctor immediately.
