How Can I Make Vanilla Sugar?

Vanilla sugar is a simple recipe made from granulated sugar, saturated with vanilla pod. There is nothing as simple or universal as homemade vanilla sugar . Vanilla sugar can be used for various desserts - in apple pies, in cake dough, biscuits, for sprinkling or in crème brûlée.

Vanilla sugar can even be used in savory recipes to give a slight sweetness to sour foods such as barbecue sauce and vinaigrette. You can add it to drinks like coffee or tea - the possibilities are endless.

Vanilla sugar is a simple and heartfelt way to thank guests at a dinner or at a wedding reception. The making and bottling process of your creation couldn't be an easier and more enjoyable activity.

For its preparation you need the following ingredients:

2 cups of sugar;

1 vanilla pod

How to prepare vanilla sugar

Place the sugar in an airtight container. Divide the vanilla pod in two, lengthwise. Using the tip of a sharp knife, scrape the seeds from the center of the pod and add it to the sugar; add the bean pod as well.

Seal the container and shake until they're mixed. Leave them covered for at least 1 week. Use as plain granulated sugar, when you throw away the bean pod as it has lost its aroma.
