How to Make Candied Rose Petals?

Candied rose petals can be a wonderful decoration for cakes, pastries and creams. They are very easy to prepare, but like any work of culinary art, they have their own subtleties.

First of all, you need to get healthy and beautiful flowers from homegrown roses that have not been treated with chemicals. If you have your own rose bush in your yard, this would be a wonderful solution. The flowers you need should not be over-bloomed or torn.

Wash each flower thoroughly with water and separate the petals. The white vein at their base should be removed, especially if you are going to use them not only for decoration but also for consumption.

Let the petals dry well on kitchen paper or a soft cotton cloth. You can lightly absorb the moisture to proceed to the next part of their preparation. To do this, you will need a thin paintbrush, a porcelain bowl, sugar, a small spoon, an egg white, and kitchen foil. It is recommended to use fine sugar to make your petals more delicate and beautiful.

Beat the egg white in the bowl. Take a petal, dip the brush in the beaten egg white, and brush it on both sides. Sprinkle sugar with the spoon, turn the petal over and sprinkle again. Then place it on the foil.

Repeat the same procedure with all the petals.

When you have placed the last petal on the foil, you can take a well-deserved break. The drying process takes at least 12 hours, and you may have to wait up to a day.

Check the candied rose petals periodically, and when you find that they are all perfectly dry, store them in a glass jar.

Close it tightly and store your rose petals in a dry and cool place (cupboard or pantry).
