Moussaka is undoubtedly one of the most popular traditional dishes in Bulgaria. It would be hard to find a restaurant that doesn't prepare it, or a household that doesn't make it regularly for a delicious lunch or dinner.
Moussaka is a casserole that can be made with baked or fried eggplants, potatoes, tomatoes, ground beef, lamb or pork and finally baked on top with a delicious topping of eggs, flour, yogurt, soda and a pinch of salt.
Many people think making moussaka is difficult. However, this is far from the truth! Preparing moussaka comes down to a few easy steps:
- select the exact spices (black pepper, paprika, savory herb, basil, parsley, cumin, dry garlic, dry onion, salt) which we flavor the minced meat with and while putting the minced meat in the baking pan , tear it into small pieces;
- prepare olive oil or oil;
- prepare eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes, onion, by cleaning and finely chopping them;
- put the above mentioned ingredients in a baking pan, cover it with water and bake in an oven until done;
- prepare the topping for the moussaka (in the form of a thick mixture), which we use to pour the moussaka with at the end (and cook it until ready), by beating eggs with yogurt and flour with added soda and a pinch of salt.
