Buttermilk is a drink similar to ayryan, but a little thicker and with a higher percentage of oiliness. It is obtained by making homemade butter from equal amounts of milk and yogurt.
It ferments easily and acquires a slightly sour taste in a day or two.
There are many recipes that require buttermilk. Unfortunately, ready-made buttermilk is not one of the products that is quite common in stores.
However, this is no reason to give up and pass up some delicacies made with buttermilk. The solution is easy - we have to prepare it ourselves.
We can prepare buttermilk in several ways:
- by mixing one tea cup of milk with one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice;
- by mixing a tea cup of milk with a tablespoon of vinegar;
- by mixing a quarter of a tea cup of milk with three quarters of a tea cup of yogurt.
Stir the prepared mixture and wait about fifteen minutes, after which our buttermilk is ready.
