- Temperature and humidity: the optimal temperature for storing apples in winter is around 0°C (min. -1°C, max. +5°C). Relative air humidity - 85-90%;
- Shelf life: autumn varieties - about 2 months at a temperature of 0°C, winter varieties - from 4 to 7 months;
- Appearance of the apples: the fruit must be without the slightest damage, worms, the stems must be intact. It is desirable to preserve the natural wax coating on the fruit;
- Sort by variety and size: store apples of each variety in separate boxes, also sort apples by size;
- Containers and storage structures: on racks (preferably with drawers for easier viewing of the fruit. Place the apples in 1 row, so that they do not touch each other), in wooden crates (place the fruit very carefully, to to avoid wounds and dents), in wooden containers, cardboard boxes. Attach a label with information about the variety of apple and the date of storage on the boxes or shelves of racks.
