What is a Crumble and How is it Made?

In English cuisine, crumble, it is very famous. This is a crunchy dessert that is made very quickly and easily, without much difficulty.

How is crumble prepared?

A crumble is a dessert that is made from stewed fruit and flour/butter dough crumbs. The recipe itself comes from Great Britain and Ireland. This crumble recipe gained popularity after the end of World War II.

The most common ingredients of this dessert are sugar, butter, flour and fruit, if making a sweet crumble.

However, if you want to make a savory crumble, it can include meat, vegetables, different sauces or cheeses. Nowadays English Crumble is very popular in America, but every day it is gaining popularity in many other countries, and its preparation does not require a lot of skills and knowledge in the kitchen;

If you want to prepare it, first you need to choose the products. From the fruit, you can use apples, blueberries, raspberries, plums, grapes, peaches and in most cases you have to stew them before adding them to the recipe.

Then the crumble dough - or more precisely a crumbly mixture - is prepared - flour is mixed with sugar and butter, which has been cut into cubes. In most cases, this is done with your fingers, but you can also use a food processor.

The oven must be preheated. Add the stewed fruit in bowls at the bottom. You can also add some nuts of your choice. Put the crumbly mixture on top, to which you can add brown sugar, so that a caramel flavor is obtained.

The crumble is baked, until it acquires a crunchy, brownish crust. You can serve it with a scoop of ice cream, with custard or cream.

The savory crumble is served with a side dish of vegetables.
