How are Plums Pitted?

Preparing plums for canning, baking or freezing often takes too much time.

Pitting plums is one of the most tedious tasks. We have some simple techniques here for you, which will help you pit plums much faster and more efficiently, even if you don't have a pitter tool.

A wooden cooking spoon with a round handle is required. An unsharpened pencil, metal straw, or chopstick are also good options.

Wash the plums carefully and remove the leaves.

Option 1

Prepare two bowls - one for the pits and one for the cleaned plums. Place a plum in your hand.

Press the end of the wooden spoon into the indented part of the plum and push it through the middle along the entire length of the fruit. The pit will end up in your hand.

Option 2

Take a glass bottle, the neck of which is narrower than the fruit, so that the plum placed on it does not fall out. Press with the handle of the spoon through the middle. This way, the fruit will remain in your hand and the pit will fall into the bottle.

If you have plums on hand, we recommend preparing:

- plum cake;

- or plum marmalade.
