How to make

Turkish Semolina Halva (Irmik Helvasi) is a traditional dessert that is easy to make and requires basic ingredients. It offers an unique texture and flavor suitable for any occasion.

Method of Preparation:

Prepare the Syrup:

In a pot, combine the sugar, water and milk. Heat over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved. It does not need to boil. Set the syrup aside.

Cooking the Semolina:

In a deep pan or pot, melt the butter over medium heat.

Add the semolina and pine nuts (if using any). Stir constantly with a wooden spoon until the semolina turns golden brown (about 10-12 minutes).

Add the Syrup:

Carefully pour the hot syrup into the pan with the cooked semolina. Be careful as steam may form.

Reduce heat to low and stir until the semolina absorbs the liquid and the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes).

Let it rest:

Cover the pot with a lid and let the halva rest for 10-15 minutes.

Serve:

Form the halva with a spoon or in bowls and serve it warm. You can garnish this delicious Turkish dessert with nuts or cinnamon.
