How to make
Beat the eggs well with the sugar and gradually add the flour, baking powder, vanilla, grated lemon rind, then stir with a spatula. Pour the mixture into a lightly greased baking dish, covered with baking paper. Put it to bake at 340°F (170 °C) until ready.
To prepare the cream, mix together the vanilla, flour and sugar and add half the milk. Stir and add the 4 egg yolks, then pour in the rest of the milk and put it to boil on the stove until thickened. Stir constantly and add a pinch of salt and grated lemon rind. Once thickened, remove from the heat, allow it to cool slightly and mix it gently with whipped confectionery cream.
Carefully cut the baked cake layer into 2 separate, thinner ones. Place one cake layer in a tray, sprinkle it well with orange juice, orange liqueur, round slices of peeled orange and sprinkle the top with pieces of crumbled dark chocolate. Pour plenty of cream on, add the second layer and repeat the procedure.
Cover the top with plenty of cream, put crushed walnuts on the side and garnish with orange slices again.
