"Eat these delicious whole grain pretzels warm with your favorite meal"

Ingredients

  • whole grain flour - 0.9 lb (400 g) wheat
  • white flour - 3 - 4 tbsp.
  • fresh yeast - 0.7 oz (20 g)
  • sugar - 0.4 oz (10 g)
  • water - 1 cup (250 ml) slightly warmed
  • olive oil - 2 tbsp. + for greasing
  • poppy seeds - for sprinkling
  • salt - 0.2 oz (5 g)
measures

How to make

Dissolve the yeast in 4/5 cup (200 ml) of water. Add the white flour and sugar and mix until you get a thick mixture. Cover the bowl with a towel and leave it for ten minutes until the yeast activates.

In another bowl, pour the salt and whole grain flour. Make a well in the middle and pour the rest of the water, the activated yeast and olive oil. Mix with your hands. If necessary, add more water.

Knead a smooth dough. Divide it into eight equal-sized pieces. Make each into an elongated strip, the ends of which join. Wet them with a little water so they stick well. This is how you shape the pretzels.

Arrange the pretzels onto a baking tray lined with baking paper, spaced apart. Spread lightly with olive oil and leave them to rise in a warm place for 60 minutes. You may need to bake them in two batches.

Sprinkle them with poppy seeds, having previously smeared them with water.

Bake the whole grain pretzels with poppy seeds for 25 minutes in a preheated oven at 370°F (190°C). They should acquire a light golden color.

Once done, cover them with a damp cloth to keep them soft on the inside and crispy on the outside.

Enjoy your meal!
