How to make
Boil the potatoes, peel them while they are still warm and put them in a baking pan, which has been drizzled with fat in advance. With a wide spatula or spoon, press and mash them, by spreading them out in an even layer in the baking pan. Sprinkle them with salt and black pepper and add half of the butter in pieces on top.
Cut the onion and fry it in the remaining olive oil. When it softens, add the thinly sliced cabbage. Sauté for a few minutes and add the butter, salt, bay leaves, lemon juice and a pinch of black pepper.
Cook, until the cabbage is softens and add the tomato puree, paprika and a little water. Boil, until it remains in fat and is almost fully cooked. If you don't want the cabbage to turn sour, don't add lemon.
Spread it over the potatoes, sprinkle it with the grated cheeses and bake the Scottish-Style Gratin with Cabbage and Potatoes in an oven heated to 360°F (180°C) for 20-25 minutes.
