  • small onions - 2.2 lb (1 kg)
  • for the first marinade
  • vinegar - 4 cups (1 L)
  • water - 1 1/5 cups (300 ml)
  • black pepper grains
  • bay leaf - 3 - 4 leaves
  • for the second marinade
  • vinegar - 2 cups (500 ml)
  • sea salt - 1 tbsp.
  • sugar - 1 level top tbsp.l
  • water - 2/3 cup (150 ml)

How to make

Peel the onions.

Pour a liter of vinegar, 1 1/5 cups (300 ml) of water into a pot, add a few peppercorns and bay leaves. Boil the liquid. Add the onions and blanch them for 3-4 minutes. Remove them from the marinade with a slotted spoon.

Leave the onions to cool.

Prepare another marinade for pouring. In a pot, pour 2 cups (500 ml) of vinegar, 2/3 cup (150 ml) of water, put 1 tbsp. of coarse sea salt and 1 level top tbsp. of sugar.

Boil on the stove. Arrange the onions in jars. Add a bay leaf and peppercorns. Pour the boiling marinade over them.

Close and turn the jars upside down.

Leave the marinated onions to cool completely before storing them in a dark place.

The Sour Marinated Onions can be made with caramelized sugar as a side dish for grilled meat!
