How to make
Soak the poppy seeds in the milk while you prepare the cake mix.
Put the soft butter in a bowl, add the sugar and the grated peel of an orange.
Beat with a mixer, until a smooth mixture is obtained.
Add the eggs one after the other, while beating them with the mixer.
In another bowl, sift the flour with a pinch of salt and baking powder.
In portions, add it to the butter-egg mixture, by stirring with a spoon.
Pour the milk with the poppy seeds and the juice of half an orange.
Line a 8″ (20 cm) cake tin with baking paper. Pour the mixture and level it out.
Bake the poppy seed cake at 360°F (180°C) in a preheated oven for about 25 minutes.
Take out the baked orange cake from the oven, remove it from the cake tin and cool it on a wire rack.
In a bowl, sift the powdered sugar, add one egg white and 2-3 drops of lemon juice.
Beat with a mixer, until a smooth mixture is obtained.
Pour the glaze over the cooled cake.
Sprinkle with poppy seeds and garnish with candied orange slices.
