How to make
The rice sticks (made from rice flour, salt and drinking water) or the ready-made sweet and sour sauce (made of tomato sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, starch, monosodium glutamate, sesame oil, salt) can be purchased from a Chinese store.
The original Korean Tteokbokki is made with Go Chu Jang spicy paste, but since I'm the only one who eats spicy food at home, I decided to cook it with sweet and sour sauce.
Clean and cut the peppers and carrots into thin and long pieces and the onion into thin crescents.
Heat the oil over a medium heat on the stove in a deep pan.
Fry the vegetables for about 5 minutes. Add the rice sticks, stir and fry for about 2 minutes. Add the water and the sweet and sour sauce and mix.
Leave the dish cook for about 15-20 minutes on medium to low heat, until the rice sticks have softened and the sauce has thickened.
Stir periodically to prevent the rice sticks from sticking to the bottom.
When ready, in a heated pan on the stove, toast the sesame seeds very briefly and sprinkle the dish. Serve the dish while it's hot.
The Vegetarian Tteokbokki with Sweet and Sour Sauce is very tasty.
