"The light sweet-sour taste of this German cake is just perfect, but if you like desserts with more sweetness, just add more sweetener"

Ingredients

  • milk - 8.5 fl oz (250 ml)
  • butter - 3.1 oz (90 g) + for the pan
  • flour - 1.1 lb (500 g) + more
  • sugar - 2.1 oz (60 g)
  • fresh yeast - 1 cube of 1.5 oz (42 g)

  • vanilla pudding - 2 pcs. (each one for 500 ml of liquid)
  • sugar - 2.5 oz (70 g)
  • milk - 4 cups
  • cherries - 1.3 lb (600 g)

How to make

Heat the milk with butter in a pot. Put the flour with the sugar and crushed yeast in a bowl, mix everything together. Add a lukewarm mixture of milk and butter.

Use the dough hook on the mixer to process everything into a smooth dough for 5 minutes. Cover it and let the dough rest for about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, mix the powdered pudding with the sugar and stir them in 6 tablespoons of milk. Bring the milk to a boil in a saucepan, stir, cook the pudding according to the instructions on the package. Transfer the pudding into a bowl and cover it with foil. Wash the cherries and carefully dry them on a kitchen towel.

Preheat the oven to 360°F (180 degrees) (with a fan - 320°F (160 degrees)). Grease the baking tray. Knead the dough on a lightly floured work surface. Roll it out into a sheet. Pierce a few holes in the dough with a fork to prevent bubbles from forming during baking.

Spread the still lukewarm pudding evenly over the yeast dough. Arrange the cherries on top. Bake the cherry cake in the oven for about 35 minutes.

Serve the Ordinary German Cherry Cake chilled.

Advice: Use fully ripe fruit. We are so used to sugar that my recipe may not be sweet enough for someone. That is why it is important to use ripe fruits and if you think that won't be enough, add a little sweetener.
