"A unique German cherry cake that tastes even better than it looks"

Ingredients

  • cherries - 10.5 oz (300 g)
  • butter - 7 oz (200 g)
  • sugar - 6 oz (170 g)
  • vanilla sugar - 1 tbsp. or vanilla essence 1 tsp.
  • salt - a pinch
  • eggs - 4
  • flour - 12 oz (350 g)
  • baking powder - 1 tbsp or 0.35 oz (10 g)
  • fresh milk - 5.75 fl oz (170 ml)
  • chocolate shavings - 1.8 oz (50 g)
  • powdered sugar - for sprinkling

How to make

Wash the cherries, remove the pits and set aside to drain.

Preheat the oven to 360°F (180 °C). Grease th cake tin or form and sprinkle it with flour.

Beat the butter at room temperature with the sugar, vanilla sugar and salt until creamy. Pour in the fresh milk and 2 tablespoons of cherry liqueur (if desired).

Then add and beat the eggs one by one. Add the sifted flour with baking powder to the mixture and mix again.

Carefully add and mix the chocolate shavings with a spoon and pour the batter into the prepared cake tin.

Finally, spread the cherries over the dough, put the cherry cake in the preheated oven and bake for about 50-60 minutes.

Towards the end of baking, check with a wooden toothstick whether the cake is baked.

After removing the German cherry cake from the oven, let it cool and sprinkle it with powdered sugar.
