How to make
In an enameled tray, put half of the coarsely chopped sauerkraut, arrange the steaks, cover with remaining sauerkraut.
Pour in the lard and 1 cup of cabbage juice. Cover the tray with aluminum foil and press it firmly to the edges. Bake for 30 minutes at high heat and 90 minutes at moderate heat.
Remove the foil, stir and bake some more, until it's left in fat only. Five minutes before removing the dish from the oven, sprinkle with the black pepper and chopped dried peppers.
