If you're suffering from gout, you're likely among the many people who are constantly looking for a new remedy or at least for new hope that would temporarily relieve your condition and reduce the number of flare-ups.
Recently, scientists have given us reason to believe that the secret to better coping with the disease lies in something quite ordinary and common - cherries. Research has shown that consumption of cherries can reduce the number of flare-ups by up to 1/3, which is not insignificant.
Research continued for 1 year, with over 600 patients with gout participating. They were given a serving of cherries 3 times a day every day (which comes out to about half a cup or 10 cherries) or were given cherry extract to drink and their flare-ups decreased by about 35%.
Gout is essentially the crystallization of uric acid in the joints, while cherries contain chemical substances that lower the levels of this acid in our blood.
In combination with allopurinol, a type of medication for gout, the number of flare-ups in patients decreased by up to a third.
Cherries are a delicious and easily accessible remedy, a more natural alternative to the dangerous chemicals modern medicine has to offer.
