Hawthorn is an herb which when used regularly can improve heart function. It is recommended for people who are hypertensive and it is also believed that it increases physical and mental ability.

Clinical testing has showed that the extract from the herb increases heart contractions, while at the same time slowing down heart rate and fixing heart rhythm irregularities.

For hypertension, a concoction from the following herbs is recommended: hawthorn, dill, valerian, melissa, mint. Put 1 teaspoon of each herb in 1 2/3 cups of boiling water.

Boil the mixture for 3 min. and then let it soak for half an hour. Finally, strain it and drink 1/2 cup 3 times a day. Continue the treatment for at least 3 months, then take a two-week break and do it again.

For high blood pressure you can make the following infusion:

Combine 3 oz hawthorn, 2 oz elder, 1.5 oz each of bunches of common horsetail and mistletoe, 1 oz of valerian roots and 0.5 oz of geranium roots in a suitable container. Mix the herbs thoroughly, then take 2 tablespoons of the blend and parboil it in 1 2/3 cups of boiling water. Let the infusion sit for an hour. Then strain it and drink 1 wine glass of it 3 times a day before meals.

Hawthorn

Another effective recipe for people suffering from hypertension contains the herbs - 2 oz hawthorn, 1.5 oz mistletoe bunches, 1 oz motherwort bunches, 0.5 oz each of lily of the valley, valerian roots and mint. The preparation is the same as in the recipe listed above. Drink 1 cup before meals 3 times a day.

If you suffer from chronic heart failure, make an infusion of 3 oz of hawthorn, 1.5 oz of valerian roots and 1 oz of pheasant's eye. Make the infusion by taking 2 tablespoons of the mixed herbs and combining them with 1 2/3 cups of boiling water. Drink 1 cup 3 times a day.

For atherosclerotic myocardium you can make the following infusion:

Combine 3.5 oz of hawthorn, 2 oz hog's fennel, 1.5 oz valerian roots, 1 oz mint leaves in a suitable container. Put 1 tablespoon of this mixture in 4/5 cup boiling water. Let the infusion sit for 2 hours and then strain it. Drink 2 to 3 times a day before meals. The dose is 1 cup.

It is believed that hawthorn will not cause harm even after being used for extended periods of time. Do not forget that valerian is poisonous. It is best consult with a doctor before using one of the recipes.
