As the name implies, jello salad has the texture of jelly. This is due to its main distinguishing ingredient gelatin. The texture of the jelly gives the beautiful festive salad a more structured look, which makes its final look more beautiful, sophisticated and suitable for any holiday table.

Homemade jello salads are the best solution for the preparation of any holiday. They are suitable for decoration and at the same time offer the perfect start to any meal.

Here are some ideas for festive jello salads

Jello Russian Salad

For this homemade winter salad you need 9 oz (250 g) mayonnaise; potatoes - 5 pcs.; 1/2 small sour cream; 3-4 pickles; 1/2 tin of peas; 1 carrot; 5.3 oz (150 g) of ham; salt; black pepper; 1 packet of gelatin (10 g); 1/2 onion.

The first step is to boil the potatoes along with the carrot. Then you cut them into cubes along with the ham and cucumbers. Mix them with peas, mayonnaise, sour cream and minced onion. In a water bath, melt the gelatin previously dissolved in lukewarm water. Add it to the mixture with the products and season with black pepper and salt. The finished Russian jello salad is poured into a mold covered with cold water. It is placed in the refrigerator for several hours, so that it can aquire a jelly texture.

Jello salad with chicken

For it you need: 1 chicken fillet; 3 pickles; 5 eggs; 2 potatoes; 7 oz (200 g) of mayonnaise; 2 sprigs of spring onions; 1 bay leaf; 1 clove of garlic.

For the jelly you need: 1 oz (30 g) of gelatin; black pepper; salt; broth.

Boil the potatoes and cut them into cubes. Also boil the eggs. Boil the chicken fillet in salted water, along with the bay leaf, garlic and as much black pepper as you like.

Take it out and cut the finished meat, by straining the broth. Then the gelatin is poured with 4/5 cup (200 ml) of the broth and stirred. Leave it for 30 minutes to swell, then heat it on the stove, until it dissolves.

Pour another 2 1/2 cups (600 ml) of the broth, by stirring the liquid and distributing it in a wide container. The layer should be about 0.4″ (1 cm) high. Put it in the refrigerator, until it acquires a jelly structure.

Cling film is placed on a bowl. The potatoes are placed on it, sprinkled with chopped spring onions and then smeared with mayonnaise. Place the pickles, chicken fillet and again mayonnaise on top. The final layer is the chopped eggs and mayonnaise again. Cover the bowl with foil and place it in the fridge for a few hours.

The finished jelly is cut into squares, which are removed from the mold. The finished festive salad can be taken out by turning the bowl upside down and removing the foil. Spread mayonnaise on top and place the jello salad squares.
