The Halloween holiday is held every year on October 31 in many Western countries. It is believed that its history is directly related to the celebration of the New Year by the Celts, which marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of the "dark half" of the year (the beginning of winter).
The Celts believed that then the border between the world of the living and the dead was very thin - because of this, spirits, apparitions and wonderful creatures were able to come to earth. Portions of food were left for them and candles were lit, and costumes were worn to protect them.
Also, the people in costumes ones went from door to door singing and asking for a treat, and if they didn't get it, they would do mischief to the host. "Scary" pumpkin lanterns have also become popular.
Here's how you too can get into the Halloween mood with a carved pumpkin.
You will need: one large round pumpkin, a sharp knife, a spoon, a bowl for the seeds, a marker, a small tea light and support surface.
1. Take the pumpkin and cut a small flat piece from the bottom so that it is stable when placed on the ground. In the same way, cut a "cap" from the top to reveal the pumpkin seeds inside;
2. Scoop out the inside with a spoon;
3. Take the marker and outline the face of your scary lantern - often draw 2 triangles for eyes, a small one for a nose and a sinister smile (draw some sharp triangular teeth to make it look creepy);
4. Gently cut out the shapes of the eyes, nose and mouth of the lantern with a knife. Be very careful with this step and take your time;
5. Place the small tea light in the bottom of the lantern and light it carefully. Ready!
