One of the most important vitamins that the human body must take regularly is vitamin C. This vitamin is responsible for the immune system, strengthening the body and preventing the development of a cold or flu.
Vitamin C is a substance that cannot be produced by the body on its own. It must be taken below a certain amount to keep the immune system normal.
Here is the optimal daily intake of vitamin C:
- The generally accepted recommended daily dose of vitamin C for women is between 80 and 100 milligrams per day. When women are breastfeeding, the amount of vitamin for the day can reach 120 milligrams;
- For men, the recommended daily dose of the vitamin is between 100 and 120 milligrams per day;
- In case a person suffers from an illness or flu-like symptoms, the amount of the daily dose of vitamin C can be increased;
- People who are active smokers or consume large amounts of alcohol, the optimal dose of vitamin C is 30% more than the accepted;
- For children and babies up to 3 years of age, the daily dose of vitamin C is up to 15 milligrams per day. When children are aged 3 to 8 years, a dose of the vitamin up to 25 milligrams is recommended. For children 9 to 13 years of age, the recommended dose is up to 45 milligrams.
