Brown rice is becoming an increasingly healthy alternative to plain white rice. It is richer in fiber and minerals. It is an excellent choice for people on a diet and those who want to eat healthy. But it also has its disadvantages - it requires longer preparation and cooking.
It is good to soak it before the actual heat treatment, so that it cooks well and does not become hard or the rice dish itself - too dry.
How long does brown rice need to be soaked for before cooking it?
It is advisable to soak brown rice for about 90 minutes after washing and cleaning it thoroughly (if necessary). When placed in a bowl, pour water, the amount of liquid should be at least 4-5 inches above the grains.
If you have time, you can soak brown rice and more. Some cooks soak it in water and put it in the fridge overnight. They then wash it and cook it according to the brown rice recipe they're following. If, for example, it needs to be boiled, after soaking, it is ready in 15-20 minutes.
There are many delicious recipes with it. For example risotto with brown rice or oven-baked brown rice. It is also suitable for rice patties. But whatever you cook, always follow the instructions that you see on the packaging of the brown rice.
