"They say that the best sponge cake comes from the Balkans. We`re leaving it up to you to decide."

Ingredients

  • layer
  • eggs - 5
  • sugar - 1 cup
  • semolina - 1 cup
  • flour - 2 cups
  • baking powder - 1
  • milk - 2/3 cup (150 ml)
  • oil - 1/2 cup
  • syrup
  • water - 3 cups
  • sugar - 2 cups
  • vanilla essence
measures

How to make

Beat the eggs and sugar in a bowl with a mixer. Add the oil gradually and continue beating, then pour in the milk.

Grab a wooden spoon which you'll be stirring the mixture with. Add the flour with the baking powder and then the semolina.

Pour the mixture into an oiled and floured tray. Bake at 320°F (160 °C) until ready. Once baked, leave it to cool and cut it as desired.

Pour the water in a pot on the stove, add the sugar for the syrup. It's ready once it starts to thicken. Remove from the heat and pour the vanilla essence in.

Leave it to cool a bit but don't let it turn cold, pour on the syrup.

Leave in the fridge overnight - it's ready for consumption the next day.
