How to make
Mix the yeast and sugar (add 3 tbsp sugar if you want them really sweet) with a little water and leave the mixture to bubble. Sift the flour with the baking powder and salt, make a well and pour in the yeast.
Heat up the milk, then pour in the oil and lard. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture in small lots and knead a dough. Divide it into 2 balls, roll them out into circles, cut them into cake-like slices and roll up from the outside in.
Optionally, put a sweet or savory filling in each scone. Arrange them in a large oven dish and leave to rise in a warm area - about 20-30 min. Smear them with an egg yolk beaten with oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake the scones at 390°F (200 °C). Then smear them with a bit of butter and once they cool, transfer to a paper bag so they don't get soggy.
