How to make
Put the softened at room temperature butter in a large bowl. Add the brown sugar to it and beat with a mixer for about 10 minutes.
Add the eggs one after the other, while still beating with the mixer. Flavor with the grated peel of one orange and pour the strained juice. Sift the flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt.
Add it in small portions to the butter mixture and pour in the milk. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.
Homogenize the products well. Line a 20cm tin with baking paper. Pour the sponge cake mix.
Bake the cake at 360°F (180°C) in a preheated oven without a fan. Check it with a wooden skewer to see if it is fully baked.
Cool the baked cake on a wire rack.
Heat the orange jam. Spread a thick layer of it on the cake, by leaving a 0.4″ (1 cm) border, which you can sprinkle with powdered sugar.
