How to make

Crack the eggs into a bowl, add the sugar and beat with a mixer, until a fluffy cream is obtained.

Heat the butter without melting it completely and add it to the egg cream.

Sift the flour with a pinch of salt and 2 teaspoons of baking powder. Add the walnuts and grated lemon peel to the flour.

With a spoon, add portions of the dry mixture to the eggs, by stirring from the bottom to the top carefully, so that the mixture does not lose its volume.

Line a 1 liter oblong cake tin with baking paper. Pour the cake mixture and add whole walnuts on top.

Bake at 360°F (180°C) in a preheated fan oven for about 40 minutes.

Test to see if the sponge cake is fully baked with a wooden skewer.

Take the sponge cake out of the cake tin and while it's still warm, brush it with 1 tablespoon of honey. Very, very delicious walnut sponge cake!

Enjoy! The walnut sponge cake is ready.
