"Did the good old man really lose his buttons and should we return the ones we ate, the children wondered ..."

Ingredients

  • white flour - 9.2 oz (260 g)
  • cornstarch - 1 tbsp (10 g)
  • salt - 1 pinch
  • butter - 8 oz (225 g) room temperature
  • powdered sugar - 3.2 oz (90 g)
  • vanilla extract - 1 1/2 tsp.
  • food coloring paint (of choice)
measures

How to make

Oven - 330°F (165°C); Two flat trays covered with baking paper.

In the bowl of the mixer or a manual one, beat the butter for 1 minute at high speed. Add sugar and vanilla, beat for about 2 minutes, until a paste is obtained.

The flour is mixed with the starch and it is added at once. Stir, until it is absorbed by the butter. Remove it from the bowl and shape it into a ball with your hands and divide it into two parts, each about 9.3 oz (265 g). A scale is used.

One ball is placed back into the mixer, the food coloring is added (color of choice) and it is beaten, until it is spread throughout the dough. Proceed in this way with the other part of the dough with another type of food coloring. Then the dough is formed into a disk and individually wrapped in foil. Leave it a cold place for about 1 hour.

After the necessary time of cooling, the dough is placed between two sheets of baking paper and rolled out into about 0.12 - 0.16″ (3-4 mm). Leave it along with the paper in a cold place again, until it hardens - about 30 to 45 minutes.

After this time, remove the top paper and with a round mold carefully, so that it doesn't break, since the dough is very cold and easily brittle, work quickly, so that it doesn't soften from the temperature and cut circles of about 2″ (5 cm).

The cut outs are collected, cooled and processed in the same way. Make an indentation on top of another circle - about 1.6″ (4 cm) in size, but do not tear the dough, just leave a good mark. With a wide straw make 4 deep holes, like buttons. Leave them in the cold again, until the oven heats up.

The other piece of dough is shaped in the same way. Bake at 330°F (165°C), no more than 10 minutes.

Santa's Buttons are ready.

Note:Gorgeous butter biscuits and highly effective, because of the colors that are added (they are optional).

Mandatory for this biscuit is the cooling of the dough, in order to have a good result. If the dough starts to soften, it is immediately taken out in the cold, it is impossible to work with soft dough.
